Join more than 200 soldiers and settlers as they set up camp for the annual War of 1812 Re-enactment from September 7th to 8th, 2024. Battle demonstrations will take place on Saturday & Sunday.

Each year on the weekend following Labour Day, historical re-enactors converge on Backus Heritage Conservation Area for what many people view as the highlight of the year – the War of 1812 Re-enactment.

Activities include:

battle re-enactments
military and civilian encampments
cannon and musket firing demonstrations
childrens militia
Sutler’s Row vendors
historic cooking demonstrations
historic presentations
weaving and spinning demonstrations from the Norfolk Fibre Arts Guild weavers, products will be available for purchase (September 7th & 8th, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm)
period demonstrations and activities in Backhouse Historic Site
tours of the 1798 Backhouse Grist Mill, the mill that didn’t burn during the War of 1812
